Re: evinrude

Most likly your's is a 1954 7.5hp Evenrude. I looked this up at:

http://web.archive.org/web/20020213051904/www.evinrude.com/docktalk/modref/evmodyr/evmodel.html

under the 7 hp area. I just got my first boat and it happens to have the same engine as yours with serial number 7518 37062. Mine is a 1955 7.5 I am having fun learning about it and just fired it for the first time an hour ago. I will be getting a manual for it as soon as possible.

Question for you. On the lower larger adjustment knob do you see numbering? My numbers are gone and I was wondering what it looks like. Starting instruction inside the coweling say turn large knob to 3. What clock possition is 3 at on yours if you can see the numbers.

Dave

Modelguide agrees that you have a 1954 7.5hp.

Fuel mix should be 24:1. 87 octane unleaded and TCW-3 outboard oil.

Champion J6C plugs, gapped at .030.

Set points at .020

Good luck. :)

Re: evinrude

The numbers on the carb knobs are just a reference point. The large knob is high speed, small knob idle. To adjust these knobs, loosen the center screw, and put the knobs on backwards. When you do this, you will see that each knob has a projection on the back side that will allow the knob to turn 180 degrees in ether direction. Adjust both knobs were the motor runs best. Now remove the knobs, and put them back on with the projection at 180 degrees from there brass stops. As I recall, this will put the number 3 at 12 oclock, and leave you with a liberal amount of turning for fine tuning.
