My engine has trouble starting, takes almost 30 minutes to start, seems as though its a fuel problem, maybe fuel lines, maybe choke solenoid, adjusting the choke, I really have no idea, I'm a beginner with repairing outboards :( Where do I start, what should I check? Thanks

Captain Jon....I don't think they used a choke in 95, pretty sure it has the primer. Anyway what is your ususal starting technique?

Usually hold the choke for 5 seconds....then crank and it goes....but it still does that, it just wont keep going it keeps staling and i have to prime it again each time

cj , the primer only works when you depress the key and turn the motor over with the starter. Hold the key in after it starts for ten to fifteen seconds or until it starts to over choke the motor The small amount of fuel injected by holding the key in before cranking is miniscule. For those who think differently pull the hose from the solenoid and check the amount of fuel spit out. It's only the fuel pressure created by the squeeze bulb being pumped up. nevjb

Pump the fuel bulb before and after it pops.
Replace the plugs with QL78YC, if that doesn't work, try the QL82YC plugs. Don't run that hot plug at extended high rpm.

When you get done boating for the day, run it at high rpm right before putting it on the trailor.

The day before you go boating, run it on the muffs for 5 minutes. It will run leaner, and blow out the extra oil in the bottom of the crank case.

If this doesn't help, advance your idle ignition timing a couple of degrees by turning the screw counter-clockwise 2 turns.

If this doesn't work, take it into the shop. You either have carb or ignition problems. Might be that your "quik-start" is not advancing your ignition when the engine is cold.

Hey guys, the plugs are brand new, the engine has no problem starting though, the fuel isn't getting to the engine....it starts up fine and then stalls out because theres no fuel left and then i gotta pump it again for 20 minutes...i think i have an air leak, but i dont know how to look for one or how to fix it, any suggestions? thanks
