This requires a complete gear case disassemly. You will need a manual for this, plus some special tools.Heavy snap ring pliers. Pinion nut wrench, special socket wrench for drive shaft splines. Why do you need to remove the drive shaft?

I'm confused!!! You asked how to remove a drive shaft and you were told how to remove a prop shaft. Oops

Dude: You have to remove the prop shaft bearing carrier. Then the snap rings, retainer plate, and reverse gear. You can now get a wrench on the pinion gear nut to remove the drive shaft.

the pinion gear nut has been removed, the shaft itself won't budge, like something is still holding it in. the reason i'm taking it out is to put it in a new housing. is there a way to get it out without a manual? i'm desperate!

The pinion gear is held onto the driveshaft with a locking taper, just like a flywheel. There is a special tool to take care of that.

Some "mechanics" put the nut back on the shaft with a few threads then wedge a large screwdriver between the nut and the clutch dog on the propshaft. A sharp blow to the bottom of the propshaft "breaks" the bond and the driveshaft comes free. It is very easy to damage the threads and the propshaft with this method.

Don't forget that the driveshaft needs to be shimmed using the special tools before assembly. You will need the service manual for this.
