Re: help selecting prop evinrude 100hp
Hey Beach,
Stainless steel props offer slightly better performance and much better durability than standard aluminum props. However, aluminum props are much less expensive (typically around $100-$125 compared to $250-$400+ for SS). Whatever you decide to go with, make sure the prop will allow your motor to turn its maximum rated RPMS at wide open throttle....this being with your boat lightly loaded. Some props with a higher pitch such as a 21 or 23 may give you better top end speed but if you use one, keep a close eye on RPMs. If a certain pitched prop causes your WOT RPMs to be lower than your maximum rated RPMs, go down in pitch to increase the RPMs. Otherwise you run the risk of lugging your engine, which can cause serious internal heat damage.
I think Kennys'recommendation is a good one as far as the size (diameter) and pitch goes. FYI...My 2000 Johnson 90hp came with a 14X19 aluminum. Good luck!
