How do you know when you fuel lift pump has went bad. Reason for asking is because when I pump the primer ball it keeps pumping and never gets tight. I pull the plugs and number 6 is full of gass. When I do start it, it idles for a second and then Rebs up as if you were accel. I need some suggestions.

Sounds like the carb float needle is sticking open allowing fuel to continue to pass through to the cylinder. I would pull the carb and check and clean it. This would explain why the cylinder is full of fuel and the bulb not getting firm.

No carbs on a FICHT.<br /><br />A quick fuel pump check is to remove both pulse hoses and see if there is gasoline in them. Then prime the ball and squeeze hard to build up fuel pressure. IF the diaphragm is bad, you will see gas leaking out. The pump, made by Carter, has to be replaced as an assembly.

I had it checked out by a mechanic and he said that it was the lift pump. He had heard that it was a common problem in this type motor. I'm going to try and replace the lift pump myself. How do I get the excess gas out of the motor. The gass has built up in the #6 plug. Do I turn the motor by hand to blow that gas out or is there another way. I need some one to reply ASAP.<br />Thank you guys for your help <br />P.S. I need to know if anyone know of any good OMC Mech. in my area that knows Ficht eng.

It sounds like the injector is stuck open. They can be rebuilt. You need a laptop and correct program or palm pilot with correct program to properly install the injector after is been rebuilt. If its not the lift pump which will usally will effect two cylinders not just one. A bad injector thats stuck will effect one cylinder. There is a test to check the injector out of the engine. You are doing the same test only with the primer bulb.

This engine ecu has the ability to run diagnostics. First run to check for trouble codes.
