Was checking out engine flushers (earmuff style) and found this item on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2442455651&category=26454

But I am not sure if it's a good idea to put water in where it is supposed to come out. Especially if the engine is running.

The water flow diagram for my o/b (see below) shows that if water is input through the "pisser" hose, it will enter at the exhaust manifold and flow forward throught the motor as if it were being pumped, but also back down the lower housing to the water pump and be "fighing" it.

Any thoughts on running the engine this way?

Mark.

Those things are designed to flush with the engine "not running."It also won't provide a good flush through the waterpump for the salt water boaters like myself.

Mark....Those things will backflush the motor with freshwater, all the new motors come with this type of system stock, it doubles as the tell-tale. But if you run it without muffs using only this to cool the motor you will tear up your water pump impeller because it is running with no lubrication, such as the guy in that picture is doing. I have a friend who never listened to me about this, he ran it twice like this and destroyed the impeller, guess who had to replace it, at least I got to rub it in.

I've been using the hose attachment on the back of my J200 to prep the engine for winter for years. Typically I run it for about 10 minutes to warm it up and then a couple more to inject the storage oil thru the schreader valve on the primer. Never had a problem with the impeller and my water pressure has been rock solid.

Just my experience.
