I have a 1999 115 Ficht, 20" shaft. This is the "light duty" lower unit as the heavier "V6" lower unit was only available on the long shaft motors in the Ocean Pro line.

I was told that the OMC water pump kit 5001595, which does not have the bleed hole in the impeller housing, is recommended as it provides slightly higher water pressure than the OMC 5001594 kit which has the bleed hole.

I read in another thread (from seahorse, who seems to know their stuff!) that "is not recommended because it would not fill the midsection with water due to the housing design difference".

I also see that my high pressure kit 5001595 does not include the O-ring that goes on the shaft below the powerhead spline.

Please clarify. What does filling the mid section with water do? Can I use the 5001595 kit on my 1999 115 FICHT Ocean Pro with the 20" shaft?
