Re: best price on powerheads

Just repowered my 85 140 with a powerhead from iboats.Only have 4 hrs.on the engine and just pulled it out for the winter, but my mechanic said the that the powerhead was excellent. Did quite a bit of pricing out and they are very good price wise. Good luck

if there is nothing wrong with the 120, why not just place the complete induction setup off the 140 on it.

This is a decision that should not be made on price alone. Thoroughly check out whoever you are considering as the lowest price may get you the lowest quality and the least reliability.

Re: best price on powerheads

I have personally rebuilt powerheads to keep in stock so as to have my customers back in the water as soon as possible. This is not meant to be a competition type post to compete with "iboats" but rather simply a reference.

Edit. Sorry Joe. Maybe you should say you have sold that type of powerhead in the past for around $1,550.00. Moderator1

The bore on the 1989 is 3.685" as compared to the 3.500" bore on the 1987. As for interchanging components and why someone said that, they would have to answer that. Personally I don't care to interchange/swap parts unless the original parts were flawed somehow and a corrective bulletin was issued.

Re: best price on powerheads

hello
yep what joe says. I dont think the rods were any better in 93 and some were even lighter. I built a small bore 120/140 and used the 89 140 parts. its the frankenstien motor that I refer to occasionally. it is still VRO and has run over 10,000 gallons of gasoline through it since the summer of 98. runs a steady diet of whatever oil is the cheapest and has worn out 3 control boxes. 4 counting the one that is under a recall that failed. the old guy crabbing with it also runs nets in the sound, this motor gets no maint unless it does not run at all. the major problem I had was the bigbore carbs and reeeds would run ok above 3500 but lousy between idle and 3500. I dont like to mix and match and in this case I will tell you from experience it is not worth the hassel and I do this everday to pay my kids college. the man running it is 79 years old and is my one charity case. it is also a good way for me to test the engines I build. the big bores had a tendancy in saltwater use to eat away the sleeve liner. but if I were you I would recondition the power head just like it left the factory and it will run for years and years.
good luck and keep posting

Re: best price on powerheads

hello
dude if ya go from a big bore to a small bore the carbs and intakes may not work. it did not when I tried it anyway. I finally had to use a set of small bore manifolds, throttle bodies and carbs to make it work correctly.
good luck and keep posting. and there is a step sleeve avalible to help with the missing aluminium problem. its common with that block.
