You pay a marine technician and you watch what he does. Then if your up to it do it next time yourself.

ronh....welcome to the iboats forums...<br /><br />If your a do-it-yourselfer, get a OEM service manual at your local Johnny/Rude dealership. It will guide you step by step through the process. The Service Manual will also be an invaluable tool for later reference when troubles crop up. The most important section is the engine care section. Read it!<br /><br />PS....changing out the impeller is not a big deal. May seem so since you've never do it. Just follow the manual.<br /><br />Good Luck

How do you change the water pump for the first time?

please for some reason I can't disconnect the shift rod to remove the lower unit in order to remove the water pump.

Wow !!!! a post from the distant past !!! 2003.
You should really start a new thread on this. You will get a much better response.
This may help a little, however you need to post your make, model and year for anyone to help out properly.
