I have a 96 Evinrude 2hp. What sort of tank setup is cheap and easy for repair testing.
Ron

I used to test my 6hp on a homemade sawhorse with the l/u in a garbage can (clean) full of water.

jtw

A five gallon bucket is plenty for a 2 hp. Just make sure it is kept full.

The garbage can works even better.

Plastic is fine. Just make sure the motor is supported somehow.......

Yeah, the garbage can idea works great.

I ran a can of sea foam through my li'll motor, along with running pretty rich anyhow, the water now has an aweful 2 stroke smell and a layer of foamy stuff on the top.

So, I haven't touched it. I don't know if it's harmful, but best let ferment for a bit eh?

Is it OK to remove the prop while testing the engine?
Is there any product that can be added to the gas that is a safe and effective cleaner for the carb and engine?
Ron

I suppose you could remove the prop, I don't think it would effect much.

I'm not familiar with a cleaner that cleans the carb and engine, but I'm sure there is something out there.

I reffered to "Sea Foam" product, which decarbonises the engine (stuck rings etc) pretty good. There are also other products that work simularly.

As for the carb, I say the best think to do is clean it out with some solvent and compressed air. Stale gas can be pretty nasty. It'll become hard and block jets etc. Best to get right at it.

G'luck.

How do I clean the carb (96 Evinrude 2hp)? Do I remove it from the engine?
Ron

Yeah, for cleaning the carb, you must remove it from the engine. Not a hard thing to do. If you don't have one, a repair manual is a must. The genuine version specificaly for the motor works best (with pics. etc) Make sure the gasket between the carb and engine doesn't tear, if so get a new one, or use gasket sealer.

If the float bowl hasn't been drained (when not in use ex. winter time) the gas may become gummy and start pluging the jets that spray the fuel/air mixture into the intake of the engine.

Carb rebuild kits are also available, but are expensive (kinda) and normaly replace worn out O Rings etc. But, seeing how your motor is relatively new it shouldn't be a problem.

You could let the carb sit in solvent overnight to break down the skunge (gas residue) Best to take out the rubber pieces, and possibly soak the jets seperately.

Hope this helps.
