Hi I think that I must have been on every WebSite in existance to find an answer to my question, and so far no one has been able to come up with an answer!!!!
I have a Johnson Colt Outboard Moter which I purchased last year... and I need to get a repair Manual/Service Manual for it... But I need to know the year of Manufacture and HP
I was told by the guy I Bought it from that it is a 4hp... But I'm not sure that he's right
The model Number is JCOESE and Serial Number is B8449823 it was manufactured in Belgium and it has a "rope pull" start... if anyone can give me any assistance about this fantom engine I would be eternally grateful as I have about worn out the ends of my fingers on this cursed keyboard....lol
Many thanks
Steve

Surprise!

It is a 1990 Johnson Colt, which is indeed a 4hp.

The factory service manual is p/n 507870 and could likely be ordered through the European Evinrude/Johnson distributor, or through a dealer in the U.S. Try www.garysmarine.com - I know he ships all over the world.

-John

These folks also ship internationally for the Factory Service Manual. They also have the Owners Manual and Parts Manual, if you like.

marineengine

Re: No one will be able to answer this!!!

Cheers Guys for the info.... I did originally come to this site and asked for the same information, but I got told that my outboard was 1.2hp so I wasn't quite sure whether this was correct or not.... it seems that the model number of my Colt... JCOESE is very uncommon. It would be very helpful if anyone could let me know how the HP and Year of manufacture were actually worked out....
Cheers
Steve

Re: No one will be able to answer this!!!

The model number though unusual, still follows the model year identification OMC established back in 1980. Using the word "INTRODUCES", where I=1, N=2, T=3 etc the second to the last 2 letters in the model number "ES" i.d. it as a 1990. I also just happened to be familiar with the Colt and knew it was a 4 hp, so I pulled that service manual off the shelf and flipped open to page 4, which lists all the models covered by the particular manual - JCOES was right on top. :D

-John
