Evinrude running troubles

i have an 1968 40hp evinrude lark, it has selectric controls. last summer i tried starting it, but it only ran for a couple of seconds, it was in the water and their was lots of gas. My dad thinks it is the carberateor, but i'm not sure can anyone help me?<br /><br />thanks in advanced

If the engine has been setting up for a long time, you're dad's probably right. If you decide to overhaul them yourself, get a shop manual before ya start.<br />Keep us posted with your progress.<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty

The carb may just be dirty...especially if it wasn't run dry the last time out. Probably gummed up with a varnish like residue. A carb kit will likely be in order if you take it a part.

Well nothing can be done now, because it is at my cottage, and its winter, so i can only work on it when i go up north. alos how much would a carb kit be for the evinrude
