What is proper fuel:oil ratio

I need to know the proper fuelil ratio for my 1998 Johnson 25HP Model# J25RECB. My 87 Johnson 20HP is marked 100:1, is my 98 25HP the same? Somebody told me it was 50:1 for this motor. I dont want to run it too rich or lean. The 25 doesnt have the little sticker by the fuel hook-up like my 20 does.

50:1 should be the proper mix.<br />even on the other one I think they sent out a change on it changing it to 50;1 also

I have a 1997 15 hp Evinrude and I run 50 to 1. When it was brand new they recommended 25 to 1 for the break-in period. 100 to 1 is darn risky and I wouldn't do it. You are sure not to harm anything at 50 to 1.

50:1 is the proper mix. There were a few two cycle oils that were advertized to do the job at 100:1 but, they did more damage than good. They are not on the market any longer.<br />Stalker

OMC tried the 100:1 with there OWN oil and elected after less than 1 year, to go back to 50:1, as it came out via a service bulletin.<br />They did not take into account an ounce or so less by mistake caused serious problems at 100:1.<br />OMC claimed (admitted) there was not enough residual oil for protection against rust either.<br />Using standard oils, 50:1 is the ONLY way to go in both engines.
