I am going to get a manual Sunday for my 91 70 hp johnson. Can the average "Joe" pull off the carbs on this motor. Boat runs great 2000-5000rpm range but does poorly on slow rpm. Also do you need any special tools for the carbs. Boat has been sitting about 8 months compression good, all cylinders firing, new fuel pump???

Re: carb cleaning

Jay I don't know about the 91 but I have did 6 or 7 on various years and h/p's and had no problem doing them.
you will need that manuel though for float settings. Go get you a gal of carb cleaner and let those things soak. I did find out that was the best way and will be money well spent.
when you get thru soaking them blow them out with some compressed air and reassemble according to manuel and you should be ready to go.
BTW go to top of page and do a search on carb rebuild or cleaning and you will find a wealth of info in there.
