I have a 48 special. Often wondered about the difference between the 48 and the 50. According to Clymers.... it has only 48 horsepower. Why two less? I have been told that it is the same engine as the 50 less the bells and whistles. Anybody have the answer???

my 115 spl has vro, tnt..the diff is a 9amp vs.6amp stator......

TPD, that is a sweet boat! I have been looking for something like that to take the wife and kids out on. My current boat is a bass boat and the wife does not like it. Have fun!

The specials I looked at new didn't have PT or VRO. I think there was $500 difference on the 50 vs 48spl.<br /><br />TPD211...what lake is that?

OMC use an "8" as an economy engine designator. Over the years we've had a 28, 48, 88, then they went to 112, which was an economy crossflow 115.

So the number doesn't really mean the horsepower, it just means it is the economy version of the next highest horsepower? 28=30hp economy, 48=50hp economy and so on, so the 88=90hp economy. Am I correct or way off?
