I have an old (probably 70's model) 4hp evinrude 2 stroke. I can get it started pretty easily with the choke out (it doesnt even kick-over with the choke in) but almost instantly it just cuts out. I think it has something to do with the carberator. I got some 'grit' out of there, but it still isnt running. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem. THANKS.
Model #- 45B36A
M= A0119333

Hello nigel and welcome to the iboats forums.

Sounds what you need to do is get a complete carb kit and rebuild the carb. Your local Johnny/Rude dealer should have them.

When it runs with the choke pulled and then stalls out when pushed in is classic plugged jets.

Get a service manual for it to. Will save you lots of time wondering about "how-to's". Just remember to hose out the jets and passages real good with carb cleaner and follow up with compressed air.

Run into problems....drop us a post.

You might save a bit of money if you just get the gaskets and a float volve. 95% of the time, that's all you need. But you won't know for sure if that's all you need until you take it apart.

Might want to check the fuel pump diapram while you are at it!
