The trim on my 1993 88 SPL just clicks when trying to go up or down.
I do not have a volt/ohm meter so I cant do any of the test in the manual.
The relays click, there is plenty of voltage I guess.
Any things I can look at without a volt/ohm meter.
We have planned to spend this weekend on the water, this sucks.
I did loosen the manual release so I can raise or lower the motor least to put it in the water.
Thanks in advance.

Re: ACK... Trim clicks in the up n down position

hello

take the large blue wire from the trim motor to battery positive and the large green to negative. motor should run in the up direction.reverse the connections and it should go down. if it does go buy a set of relays and relax. if noting happens go to the mall or the pub and enjoy the weekend anyway.
I dont think the manual release scew will allow the motor to trim full down. it usually stops at the trim pins.
good luck and keep posting

THE PUB???? Great!! I'm on my way. I'll pick ya' up rodbolt! :D

You can also try just removing the relays and reinserting them. The stabs can git crude built up on them on occasions. Make sure they are clean along with all the connector stabs.

OH Boy...goin to tha Pub!!

Update:

I jumped the green and blue wires to the battery. It didnt do a thing. I traced the wire out of the relay location and had juice coming from it.
I do have a 12 volt circuit tester so at least I can see if a circuit has power.

I didnt hear the motor whirrrr or anything.

Any suggestions?

Update 2

hehe, I cleaned the contacts in the relay connectors, brown gung was in them , it didnt help, still the same.

The TnT motor is acting like there is a dead short in the system.

Does that mean the TnT motor is shot?

hello
if it wont go when the wires are taken directly to the battery posts with a jumper harness. (make the harness with two terminals to fit the motor end conectors and two alligator clips. then it is bogus motor.
pick us up and buy the cool refreshing beverages and we will cry with ya :) :) .
mmmm
pub hoppin :)

Update 3

WOOT WOOT WOOT

Found the problem.
Thinking it was a dead short I traced the wires from the relays to the TnT motor.
I wasnt getting circuit in the wires coming out of the motor. I did the "shake test" and the motor cycled.

The wires were wraped in that plastic spiral wrap stuff so I un-wraped it.
This looks like lamp cord. Anyways, I could see a hole in the wire close to the TnT motor and it was corroded. I cut it and the wires fell out, they had been hot at one time as they were discolored and were rusted also.
I salvaged "good" wire about 4 inches from the TnT motor.

Off to the auto store for heat shrink and supplies.

Thanks for the tip on the green n blue wires.

Yeaaaa, the weekend is salvaged. The WU is happy, and it only cost 35 bucks or so to fix.
Dang, I'm gonna buy a lottery ticket and see if my luck holds out. :p

WU= Wife Unit

Hehe, Ya, I'm on a carb free diet so I bought a six-pack of Michelob Ultra, not to bad of a taste. It does taste watered down compared to regular beer but its better than no beer I guess.
I'm really a Rum n Coke drinker but have abstained while on the diet....

Try Ciclon' if ya like rum. It has tequila and lime in it, taste great.
