Hi, I have a 1985 90 hp VRO outboard motor that doesnt suck fuel. I checked all the fuel system accesories (hoses, clamps, vents, etc.)and they were fine. Does this sound like a bad fuel pump? If so, how difficult is this to fix and do I need a specific fuel pump rebuilding kit or a new fuel pump itself for a VRO motor? Also how do I find the part that I need for my motor? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to iboats atomsik...always nice to welcome another Buckeye.

Won't suck fuel. Did you check the fuel tank is venting?

If fuel tank is ok and you havn'e found any lose fuel line connections, check the hose connection to the block. It goes from the front of the VRO pump, underneath, to the block. The pump works off the press/vacuum created in the block. If this hose is lose the pump may not work.

Take a look at the wire harness coming from the VRO. Is it three or four wire? If three, it may be time to upgrade the pump to the latest model pump. The latest model is a four wire pump and is a straight 50:1 pump.

If you don't have a service manual for the engine, by all means get one. OEM is preferred. You can get them from your local dealer. This is a must for troubleshooting and will pay for itself in the long run.

If you have any more questions, please post on the same thread. Thanks.
