Re: Shift linkage

Look just below the carbs on the starboard side of the motor for a fork (linkage to shift lever)with a rod (shift rod)attached to it with either a bolt or pin. It usually takes an extension to a socket wrench if a bolt though some years have a cotter pin to disconnect.

Re: Shift linkage

It's cleverly concealed under the lower carburetor.

c/6
Hooty

Re: Shift linkage

On a '76 with its hydraulically assisted shifting gearcase, you have to loosen or remove the 5/8" headed bolt on the stb. side by the carbs that secures the arms betweeen the shift cable linkage and the gearcase shift rod. A pin is attached to one of the arms and it goes thru the plastic bushing on top of the shift rod. Replace the bushing as it is probably well worn and usually gets damaged during removal. Your best bet is to obtain the correct service manual for your motor.
