You have a 125hp 1971. Is it worth cleaning up? I don't know. You seem to think it runs good. What do you want to do to it? If it were mine, and it ran, I'd use it.

Re: Info on Boat Motor.

Thanks for the info.

I've recently been given the boat by my father as he no longer has any interest in boating hense the reason for wanting to clean up the motor and boat etc. (getting old........don't tell him I said that).

I purly want to use it for getting around the bay here in Melbourne Australia and doing a bit of cruising and fishing.

As for motors of this year, where would this sit?
Was it a good reliablre motor or did it have problems.

Thanks
DDMC

Re: Info on Boat Motor.

Well in 1971 if you just bought this motor it would be top of the line. Sure they were dependable. There are alot of things I would be checking now 30yrs later before setting out. Some of the parts, ignition, electrical and lower unit parts are getting harder to come by. But they can be had for a price. I think your best bet would be to get a manual for this rascal. Study up on it. Then go over the motors systems and service it. If all checks out well, then have fun.
