Great forum,Great info.
I'm having a problem with water in the cylinders, Heads are straight (had them decked) new Gaskets and new exhaust chamber gaskets, Thought I had it licked, then one day while checking the plugs walla, one cylinder with water on the plug ( port head bottom cylinder)
I put the exhaust gaskets back together with aviation sealer after cleaning as much as possible, maybe I was thin in that area but i'm really not looking forward to the 22 3/8 bolts securing that plate and tuner. My question for all in the know? " is there a better way?"
Thanks, Dan

Re: 79 100hp crossflow

Welcome aboard the forums dhicks...

Lemme ask....did you retorque the heads after the first run and the heads had been up to temp? This is important to do.

When you cleanded the gasket surfaces, did ya' get rid of ALL the old gasket? A little bit can hurt.

Also, ya' may want to do a compression test on all cylinders or a leak down test if you have the set up. This is just to give you an idea of how the cylinders are doing.

Keep us posted.

Is there any sign -- any at all -- of water in the #1 cylinder (starboard top) also?

Re: 79 100hp crossflow

OBJ, Yes all gasket material was removed, This has to be exhaust Gasket related, That is when the problem subsided, yes I re-torqued the heads afterwards and applied some copper kote to the gaskets(heads) as well before intial assembly. Just didn't know if anyone had any secrets, Double up on the gasket? the mating surfaces are pretty rough, thats why I chose to apply the sealer.
The motor was neglected by it's previous owner and the work he was having done was second rate at best, I'm no expert but very mechanically inclined and am in the process of going through it.
Thanks again for the help. Dhadley, not now. There was before I changed the Exhaust gaskets, There were signs of water in all four, The gasket was in very bad shape, problably cooked when he overheated the motor to the point of warping the port head and melting the temp sensor out of it.
OBJ, Compression is 110 lbs on the nose @ all four

Never apply anything copper to aluminum especially if its going in saltwater.

Dhadley, Was thinking about the last truck motor rebuild, It was in fact an old can of sealant, much like the aviation sealer applied with a brush.
