In the repair manual for my 1957 Fleetwin 7.5 it gives the proper starting points for the high and low idle needles, but what position should the knobs go back on after adjustment? Thanks!
Reinstall the knobs so the pointers are half way on the scale. If the scale reads 1-5, set the pointer about 2.5 or so. This is not an exact sience. The knobs do have stops on them. So just set somewhere half way between the stops.
I've had numerous customers tell me their engine always ran best on #3 position. So after making repairs I would adjust carb to where it ran the best, then set the knob on #3.Just a feel good item for them I quess. As Alcan pointed out, makes no difference where you put the knob.
That's funny Rjohnson, a good idea though. I have guy's ask me all the time. If I don't have to mess with those knobs ( once set) what are they there for? One fellow refered to them as mystery knobs. He claimed he turned them evey which way and they do nothing, I guess he figured it was a mystery. Of course I tried to educate this gentleman and gave him a demonstration. I think he still veiws them as a bit of a mystery.
