I have this twin, judging by the ignition '73-'74ish, only #on it c0048628. Anyway, it has 3 ring pistons in it. Anybody know what this is? Think the rings are atill available?
I was told it was a 25hp. Thanks

Sorry,I was just having fun.We really do have to have more info.Look for a core plug (about 5/8" around) near the cylinder head.It may have the model number we need to help you. DHP

The number I gave is the only number on the engine. I got it from the core plug, has the OMC symbol and then c0048628..Anyplace else I can look? Would somebody be able to tell from a casting number?

There ought to be a nameplate attached to the transom bracket with your model number on it. Either on top of the bracket or on the side.

Failing that, you might be able to narrow it a bit by looks. Check out the catalogs here. Unfortunetly, they only go till '75, and I think a 25hp has been made every year since '69.

If you can figure out the year, it shouldn't be hard to find your rings. If they're not still available, there's plenty of NOS laying around. If worse came to worst, there's a fellow in Detroit who can make you a set. :)

Otto Works

But I'm certain you won't be getting into that! A couple good places:

Twin City Outboard
Mastertech
PartsForOutboards

That last guy set me up with a set of rings for my '62 (or 63) 28hp.

I did a little checking; since you know you've got three rings, I figure you can measure the bore. I don't have a lot of information from that era, but I hope this helps:

'69 to at least '74: 2.5" bore, 2.75" stroke
'75-76: I have no information.
'77 into the '90s: 3" bore

Not much to go on I'm afraid. Hopefully someone with a little more information will post. Keep checking back!
