hello, guys, im back, sorry for the long post, but theres lots to say.
6 weeks ago i purchased a used 1980 50hp evinrude from a local dealer/ rebuilder. motor has a 30 day warranty . thats why i bought it from him, ive had bad luck in the past. motor came without starter cause when i picked up motor, starter "went out" as he said. so i got a starter for it myself. then the stator went bad and wouldnt start.it was 3 weeks after picking up motor that i finally got it to start, including 2 trips back to his shop( 86 miles each way). after getting all else fixed, 2 days later number 1 cylinder throws a rod threw my block. so i call him and return motor to be check out as to why. this is what he said...and i qoute"Took motor apart and found the top cylinder ran "Lean". This is a very
typical problem if the carbs had NOT been done, but I rebuilt those
carbs. My guess would be a problem in the fuel system, most commonly,
"Sucking Air". The hoses have "Quick" disconnect fittings on the motor
and tank and they commonly leak, or suck air. All the fuel lines on
that
motor were replaced with new clamps, or Ty-wraps. If a fitting sucks
air
it will not pump fuel and because of the "T" in the fuel line the
bottom
cylinder gets fuel, by way of gravity, first. If the system did run
short on fuel the top cylinder runs dry first. Any type of blockage can
also cause the same problem.
I will work with you for a satisfactory closing to this problem,
however, it is NOT a warranty issue."

link to his warranty page, please read http://www.vikingmarineservices.homestead.com/Details.html

if he did the rebuild himself, how is this not a warranty issue.
AM I GETTING SCREWED???????????????????????
