Can you tell if your plugs are beginning to foul by observing how the engine runs? Wouldn't it run rough, sputter, etc. if fouled? If slightly fouled, would running the engine at WOT for a while help to clean the plugs like on my Harley? If engine runs smooth, do you figure that your plugs are not fouled? Engine is a 1994-225 HP Johnny.<br />Stalker

Re: Fouled Plugs

usually engine will stumble and not feel like its making 100% power. easiest way to check is to remove the plug and check it, but if it IS fouling, i dont believe wot will clean it "like on your harley"<br />these outboards are different beasts than that hog. keep posting. by the way, what is your motor doing that makes you think its fouling?????<br />please post reply

I think you are right. On the hog, plugs foul from carbon which can be blown off by cranking her up. My boat is in a wet slip and it's difficult to get at the plugs. She runs good at idle but seems a little rough between 2000 and 2500 RPM's (engine vibrates). Above that and at WOT, she runs strong.<br />Stalker

2000-2500 RPM is about where the engine is coming out of running on the low speed , and intermediate carb circuit. A little roughness is normal. If you advance the throttle a little faster, you can drive right through this stage with less notice.
