lower unit..

Hello, I want to know if my 1979 evinrude 55hp has oil in the lower unit our how can I change the oil if it does take oil in the lower unit. Thanks... :D

How ya' doin' Sandollar?....<br /><br />Yep, the lower unit takes lube. A Hi-vis lube will do ya'. The lower unit has a drain and vent plug in it. The drain plug will be under the gear case and the vent will be above the anti-cav plate.<br /><br />Lemme' make a suggestion to ya'. Get a service manual. Be it generic or OEM, get one. It will explain how to change the gear lube and a whole bunch of other stuff you need to know about. If you really enjoy yer' boat and want to get on the water without worrying about the engine....get one. You can get one right here at iboats or contact Ken Cook company for a reprint of the original service manual. <br /><br />Don't wanna make ya' mad...but ya' need one. <br /><br />Jim

I heard that partner!!!! Trying to get mine in shape to but the warm weather here in Ohio has been bringing the guys outta the woodwork!! Luckily I store the shaker in the basement below the shop! Man I'm ready for some water!!!
