motor 225hp 88 johnson vro bypassed with <br /><br />motor hauled butt and got on plane quick but running at 4000 rpm motor died and i looked at the bulb and it was FLAT, flat did not return to it shape,<br /><br />it did return to shape once you let it sit awhile and pumped it with motor off, so it seemed to me it was a fuel restriction before the bulb. Me and my brother bypassed the water/fuel separator thinking it was gunked up somehow, it did not help ran boat again and it the bulb went flat again...so i starting to think fuel pick-up is clogged,<br /><br />you can troll motor at 1200 rpms all day, i did that for 2 hours...cruised around a little...<br /><br />I'm not gonna mess with a tank of fuel, plan on taking it to a mechanic, rather be safe....just wated to get opinions on what to tell him so he can fix it right away,,,,seems like a simple job, thats why i'm overall happy with how the motor ran when it was geting fuel....

Hello.<br />If you are on the water and this happens you can turn the ball around and give a few good squeezes it will dislodge the gunk by pushing it in the opposite direction. Then just return it in the right direction and you should be alright for a while.

Have you checked the fuel tank vent to make sure it's clear? Try another bulb, too.

i pretty sure the vent is good cause i painted the boat once and when i un taped it, it made a swish noise from the gas pressure exiting. i will try a new bulb but i'm really thinking its the pick unit,

It may be the pick-up is clogged. Or it could be the anti-syphon valve in the tank. Just trying to rule out the least expensive parts first. Of course, if you really want to find out quickly, get yourself a portable 6 Gal. tank and a new fuel line with a new bulb, fill it up with fresh pre-mix, hook that up to the engine and see how it runs. That will eliminate the vent possibility, Clogged up pick-up, Anti-syphon valve and possibly, water in the fuel, all in one shot. That's where I would begin and then work my way back until I found the cause.

(Fuel Anti Siphon Valve)<br />(J. Reeves)<br /> <br />Check the built in fuel tank where the rubber fuel line attaches to the tank fitting. That fitting is in all probability a "Anti Siphon" valve which is notorious for sticking in a semi closed position. It will be aluminum, about 2" long, and the insides of it will consist of a spring, a ball, and a ball seat. If this valve exists, remove it, knock out those inner components which will convert it to a straight through fitting, then re-install it. Hopefully that cures the problem.

oh and Joe is ok to run the boat without the anti sphion valve removed,,,,what was the purpose of the valve so people can steal gas from you ? :)

I had the same problem with my 100HP, it was the connection between the fuel line leading to the engine and the filter. The fitting was too small. Check the size of your connections

The purpose of the anti siphon valve would be to prevent the fuel from the tank to siphon itself out should the fuel line break and be lower than the tank at some point.

Joe Reeves is the best. He also reminded me that I should check the screen under the ball valve (if there is one) at the tank and to make sure you remove it. If you remove the screen put an inline filter in at a more convenient location. Do not bring it to a wrench until you have tried these minimal tasks.

Dude.... You state and I quote "He also reminded me that I should check the screen under the ball valve (if there is one) at the tank and to make sure you remove it."<br /><br />I think you may have me confused with someone else as I don't recall saying that. Matter of fact I can't think of what that might be. My e-mail address is below. Bring me up to date on whatever that pertains to.
