I have a Question about Tilt/Trim on my 1978 115HP Johnson. Should the power trim pump shut off automaticly when the engine hits its limits of trim or tilt??? In other words>If I hold the trim button for up, should the pump shut off when the engine reaches the top>>>or should it keep pumping as long as you hold the trim switch???
Mine keeps pumping and blows a bit of fluid past the seals.

Thanks for any help here! ;)
BOILERMAKER

There is no automatic shutoff. Curious as to why one would want to keep the switch engaged when it hits its limit?

Re: TILT/TRIM Question???

Thanks Joe. As to WHY>>>well last year my Trim Gauge stopped working and when at full throttle you can't hear the trim pump. It was only once or twice that I may have held the switch for a second longer then needed>>>but this was enough to loss some fluid.
Do you think I need new seals??

Re: TILT/TRIM Question???

Sounds like the sender back inside the port transom bracket is either stuck or faulty. You can trace the sender wires backwards, disconnect them, and check the sender out with an ohm meter.

And yes..... if fluid is leaking anywhere for any reason, correct that condition. If fluid can leak out, water can leak in.
