I have a 76 evinrude 115hp outboard cd4. I have used the boat for this being my second season. Last season I had trouble getting it started, It would take at least 2 to 3 hours to get it running. I would have absolutley no spark to any of the 4 cylinders. Last year while cranking the motor the power across the pack was fine except the 4 coils. It was zero no matter what I did. Then I am not sure what I had done but it just started working. Well it did that to me 2 times last year so I bought a new power pack and it didnt fix the problem. Stil no fire to any coil. But for some reason it started working again a couple hours later after cranking a ton on it. When it does run it runs great, even flawless. Well I am fixing to take it out for the first time this year and again no spark. I need help as to what to look for as a problem. I read something about a key switch test. But where is the key switch, is it where you turn the key to start it or is there another spot where it is. Why would that make a difference wheather the coils get ignition.
Thanks
Toby

Toby..... Remove the "Black/Yellow" wire from the powerpack. If you now have spark, the ignition switch (where you put the key) is faulty. The cure would be to replace the ignition switch.

Note.... with that wire removed, it will be impossible to shut the engine down by turning the key off.
