engine starts fine and engages in foward/reverse but when you throttle up the motor only goes 1/4 speed. In netreul it rev up like it should. seems to be getting good spark and gas. suspect lower unit problems. any ideas?

Try checking your timing. also look and see if your choke is not open allowing engine to breathe to get some rpm's
Try new spark plugs, Are the "old" plugs soaked with fuel?
keep posting :)

duthie,

2-stroke outboards will rev up just fine, with no load, on half or less of thier cylinders.

My suspiscion is that you are losing a cylinder, under heavy loads.

Buy a cheap spark tester at a local auto parts store and check for spark, on both cylinders, when you problem occurs.
