cutting out

I have a 97 50 horse Johnson, and it was running perfectly until yesterday when while running at full throttle, the motor slowed down to about half, then would surge sometimes running back to full then back to half or less, it kept running, would idle roughly, and started back easily, I pumped the primer bulb during these episodes, and it seemed to make it run worse instead of better. Had the carburaters rebuilt last year, and had a new powerpack put on one cylinder last year. this seems to be the same thing as when the powerpack went out, and if it is the powerpack, is this unusual for them to go out. I know the motor is seven years old, but it hasn't been used that much, I use fuel conditioner in the gas also(Johnson 4+2 conditioner) I would appreciate any help Thanks

Re: cutting out

My first guess would be you fouled a plug, if it still does it, you might try cleaning carbs and making sure the float is moving freely. Couple things to try that have worked for me in the past.

Good Luck

Re: cutting out

I'll check the plugs, but I forgot to put in my post that after I got it home the other night, i noticed that the fuel line was loose at the gas tank, so I put a clamp on it, hoping that the cutting out was from sucking air, I ran the boat today, and for about five minutes it ran great, then it was back to the half throttle, the every once it awile it would run like it should Thanks
