Re: In need of more power

The prop you have sound pretty big for the motor you have, sound like you have a prop off a 70hp or 85hp on there. you need to get the rpm up, i can't remember what size prop a 50 is supposed to have but my 70 is running a 13:19. Try finding a dealer or friend that will let you borrow a smaller prop and see if that helps; :D

i had EXACT same proplem with my 1980 50hp evinrude...would only get 2500 rpms WOT... i tried all kinds of sh*t and i found out what it was when that top connecting rod came shooting through my block. it was only running on bottom cylinder. top would run acasionally but not enough to make and hp difference...

check your carbs and check your fuel line and ALL fittings.... i had a loose fuel line that would suck air and well... now im getting a new powerhead

Re: In need of more power

In need of grace, i have the same motor, when it was on an old Trophy bass boat, we could easily pull a kneeboard. I have added a pic of the tag, with the RPM range.

I am going to put it on a 1760 aluminum semi-v I am having built now. Mine has the same prop also, the 13 3/4X15. I am curious as to how it will run on the new boat.

Hope it works out for you, good luck.

fishn_n_tx I would be interested in how the motor works on your new boat as well. I'll be calling tiny tach this week to get their input.

Hi Guys,
I now have the tiny tach hooked up right and I get approx 4000 rpm WOT and 21-22 mph with just me in the boat. I bought a manual hoping it would have prop sizes for this motor - no such luck

Thanks

You are WAY overpropped and/or the engine is set too low.

Plus, your compression numbers do not signify a healthy engine. I think I would work on that first.
