My 1995 50 HP Johnson has intermittent high speed. One day it will run all over the lake no problems. Then on occasion, cranks and runs fine but will run at only one third throttle approx. On occasion by shutting it off and recranking it will run normal and sometimes not.
It is just a royal pain, nothing to strand me but if anyone has ANY ideas I would greatly appreciate hearing them. PS the horn sounds when key is turned on and appears to be working.
I've tried gas, filters, carb tune, plug and all the easy things I could think of.HELP PLEASE!

Re: intermittent high speed

The symptoms you describe fit crud in the carbs. Time for a rebuild.

Re: intermittent high speed

Yeah...what solittle said. Probably a chunk of crud floating around and occasionally gets sucked up to the high speed jet. Don't let this persist. You could run a cylinder lean and make more problems.......like rebuild problems.

Keep us posted.
