Like we thought. Too slow. Did you find out what prop is on it now?

Does it have power trim?

Couldn't get to the prop without taking a dive. Way too cold for that! I looked at one of my spares and couldn't see any numbers. No power trim. I have an electric tilt, but the seller told me it's only to raise or lower the engine. He said if I use it for trim, I'll blow it out.

"Bad question to ask! I asked the same question about my engine and got an earfull. Look at the thread titled "Suggestions on improving performance on 115HP Johnny". It's about 8 threads below yours. Good luck!"

If trying to help is an earfull. I'm done.

DJ;
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. My statement was meant to be sarcastic, but obviously didn't come off that way. The point I was trying to make was that I thought I was asking a simple question about improving performance only to find that I actually have problems. I appreciate all the input at this site. I'll be de-carbing the engine, experimenting with different props, and checking the linkage as suggested. Again, I tried to handle the situation with a little humor, but it was misinterpreted. Sorry!

Erau - never joke about such serious subjects... ;)

The prop is the only way your beloved motor can turn it's power into movement. That is why it is important above all and why so many helpful members give this the greatest concern.

Go here http://www.props.net/ and focus on the lower half of the page.

Providing your motor runs as best can, the right prop will allow your motor to do it's best. Playing with the boat/motor setup may tweak it to the little extra, you initially asked about.

DJ was almost dead nuts on. I'm running a 14 X 17 prop. My spare is a 13 X 19, so it's even worse. My third prop, as I found out today, is junk because it doesn't fit my splines.

UU, that link on props was helpful. I guess I'll do some prop shopping after I de-carb and check adjustments.

So, if all engine parameters and adjustments check out, I assume I should go with a 14 X 13 prop, right?

try a 15 inch pitch first, i have a 13 on mine and it cavitates pretty bad, try a prop shop , not a store such as west marine or boaters world, ,, a true prop shop will (maybe) let you take the prop and try it to see how it works on your particular setup, versus just going out and buying prop after prop and then selling them on ebay at a loss cause they were the wrong ones, but also check ebay once you find the right size, they are pretty darn tooten cheep

mikey :p
