1989 Morse Command 2 rotary helm with cover plate removed. http://www.c-brats.com/albums/Adeline/Morse_Helm.sized.jpg . I'm not quite clear how to proceed. I know that the 2 machine screws at 7 o'clock retain the anchor plate securing the cable end. But the white nylon "back-up ring"(between housing and rotor) seems to require removal before the cable can come out. Also, it appears the cable is under great tension as it enters the housing. Do I have to remove the entire helm assembly to relieve this tension or can I muscle the cable in/out with the assembly still bolted to the bulkhead?

the helm has to be dissasembled on that model.<br /> you may check cable availibity. most the old morse systems are no longer availible.

Re: New Steering Cable (picture)

DJ, The rotary helms I've looked at have a second, short, cable-like extension(opposite the steering cable) that presents clearance problems. Rodbolt, I was fortunate to find a replacement cable after much searching. By disassembly, do you mean removing the rotor from the housing? I can remove the drive unit assembly from the shaft support by removing the two retainers http://www.c-brats.com/albums/Adeline/Morse_Helm_3.sized.jpg . Will that allow me to release the rotor. Can you elaborate?
