Re: Oil Changes
Insurance isn't an issue, and the cost of it really isn't that bad. Valvoline and AMSOIL meet and exceed all the specs from every manufacture. Remember AMSOIL has been around since 1972 with very little advertising, I run it in everything I own including my lawn mower, Sea-doo, Ski-Doo, Truck and my Boat with Twin Merc 470's.

I've been working on cars and what not for 15 years now. I have no problem using whatever the person wants to run really, I just prefer and recomend these two. If someone wanted to run Mobil 1 or penzoil in the car or truck I can get it, but the cost may be slightly higher as I wouldn't normally stock it.

Now on the issue of touching someone elses boat, if I go to work on a boat and the bilge is full of oil or the boat just doesn't look like it's been taken care of, there's a pretty good chance I won't touch it. And if I do touch it and something I did causes something to go wrong, then that's what the insurance is for.

I have run into this before though. I had someone come to me to change their oil in a Chevy Blazer that they just got. When I pulled the plug, chunks were coming out of the pan, right then I knew it wasn't going to be good. I pulled a quaker state filter off and the same thing chunks in the filter. I finished the oil change off with some good ol high detergent Valvoine 5-30 all climate and within a couple of days the motor as knocking. Had two mechanics look at it and it spun a bearing from the valvoline cleaning out the motor. I was found not at fault though due to neglect of the previous owner. The previous owner and the current owner ended up settleing on going halves on a rebuild.
