Stick with 24:1 ratio.
Decarb it if you haven't already. Do a compression check to make sure you don't have a stuck ring. (from carbon)
Inspect and change the lower unit oil.
Inspect or replace all rubber hoses. Modern gas tends to break them down. NAPA has replacement fuel line.
Expect to need a carb kit soon. Again, modern gas causes problems with the original floats. If the needle and seat are original, they're probably pretty worn.
Replace the water pump impeller, unless you know for a fact it is under 2 years old. A new one is cheap. NAPA autoparts or Iboats, #18-3006.

I've got a '64 35.7CID engine, which yours would be the grandfather of. :)

I'm certain others will have more and better ideas. :)
Good luck!

EDIT: Just looked at some history, it looks like you've got the water pump taken care of.

:) thanks I did do a compression test it showed
65psi per cylender I also replaced the impeller becuse it was shot when I got the engine.
I havent taken the carb apart yet it seems to be
running ok I ran it for 30mins in a 55gal drum.
I did change the oil in the lower unit.
I have not tried this engine on the water yet.
thanks for all your help.

Do that decarb. It might even bring those compression numbers up a bit. These big twins seem to get carboned up pretty good, I guess because they lack a thermostat. Peer down a sparkplug hole with a flashlight, and have a look at the piston crown.

Re: '51 eveinrude care

No prob. You can get a carb kit (PN 439074) from any Johnny/Rude dealer, or here. The aftermarket carb kits (18-zzzz numbers) do not include a float, so you need to get an OEM one.

I'm not saying to rebuild the carb if it's working properly now. Just to be aware that it may be a problem in the future, especially with fuels containing alcohol.
