I just got a boat with a 1947 johnson seahorse motor. The gas tank leaks. It has the double line gas line. (I assume one is for gas and the other is for air??) I do not know much about it. I would like to know if they sell a adaptor that I could use to buy a new gas tank and make it work or what my options are. Thanks in advance.

lowdown187@hotmail.com

lowdown,

Some of the older two hose systems could be converted, some could not. I do know about yours.

You are correct, one hose is for air and the other fuel.

You can usually find these old two hose tanks on e-bay.

Where is yours leaking? If it's around the fittings or guage, you rebuild (new gaskets, etc) for leaks there.

Back then they used a tank that pressurized, I think you can convert it to a late model tank but have to install a fuel pump, small inline electic pump will do and plug the pressure line at the motor. As already said I have seen them on ebay but you might get a leaker there too those tanks are over 50 years old. :)

WOW, you guys post replies fast. Thanks for the help. The Tank is leaking out of the bottom of the actual tank itself. Not a big leak. I noticed they are selling pretty good on ebay. It might be better just to fix it. Any advise as to do that? (boil the tank to get the gas out? etc) I might just take it to a radiator shop and have them mess with it.

Hi Lowdown
Sorry I can't see your tank. I have allways concidered the tanks that leak do to rust/corrosion scrap. Salvage the top with the cap, pump, handle and the connector. You may need these parts to repair another tank. Unless you purchess a presure tank from a reputable person whom says he has over hauled it, you will want to do this your self before use. Remember the price you pay has to reflect the condition. A nice old tank in good condition (half full of nucular waste) in need of reconditioning might be 20 bucks tops, a race ready unit including paint about $100. A new modern OEM tank and hose will set you back more than that.
