I have a 9.9 evinrude motor it runs but will not pump water out. I have just purchased this motor have not taken it on the water yet. The model # is 10624 not sure what year it is. Any suggestions on why it wont pump water would be helpful.

Re: 9.9 evinrude motor

First, it sounds like from your post that you are new to outboards. A Manual would be in order. That will walk you through many problems. As for the cooling problem, it sounds like your water pump needs replacing or the water passages are clogged up. The flywheel has nothing to do with water output. Can you give us some backround info on this engine? Did it pump water at anytime before? Is this engine new to you? Model number would be good. Has this engine been run in saltwater? Any other info you can tell us will help to solve your problem...

PS: Do not run that motor again until you find the problem. Could be very bad....

Asuming this is an older motor: the 9.9 and 15's have some small passages under the gaskets on the exhaust housing that tend to clog up. If it's not the pump or thermostat, check this before you pull the power head for anything else. You really need a manual to take you through this and can buy them from iboats. Don't run the motor until you're sure you are getting cooling water. Welcome to the forum.

Great motor - I have one - will last a long, long time if cared for.
