Getting my boat ready to go in the water this weekend and waiting for my manual, but had a couple of questions in case it doesn't get here in time. 1- How do I get to and go about checking and cleaning the recirc valves, do I need to take the carbs off? 2- How do I check the temp. sensor and VRO no oil sensor for proper operation, ie. grounding wires, I think the tan wire for temp. sensor? Thanks in advance, can't wait to get back on the water.

Hey mmc...glad ta' hear yer' gearing up for the good weather.

Follow the recirc lines back to the intake manifold. I think the valves are mounted so ya' can get to them without removing the carbs. Shoot some isopheral (rubbing alcolhol) through them and make sure they ain't plugged. Put some gel seal on the threads before putting them back in.

Temp sensors don't go bad that often. Wouldn't really worry about them. Just ground the knife connector to ground to make sure ya' got the alarm.

Test the no oil alarm, hook up a can of pre-mix to the engine. Start her up and pull the oil line at the engine lower pan. Once the oil has been used up, you should get an urgent 1/2sec tone every 1/2sec. If it's OK...prime the oil feed line and re-connect. Ya' might also want to pull the oil reservoir unit out and replace the oil filter sock. Before you put the unit back in the resorvoir, turn the key on and see if the low oil reservoir alarm sounds. This will be a 1/2 second tone every 20secs. or so.

Hope we've helped a little. Enjoy the season!!

Re: PM on 2000 Johnson 200

OBJ....Thanks for the info. I think I may have a wiring problem with my alarm, the low oil sensor turns the alarm on constant, like the overheat alarm is supposed to be. I found this out on the water last season when my resevoir went low and the constant warning came on, I was going full throttle and thought I was overheating, when I stopped, the motor was cool and the water pressure gauge was showing good pressure, I looked at the oil resevoir and it was only about 1/4 full, I kept going and it went off for a minute and then came back until I put oil in it. Gotta try and figure that out.
Anyway, how do identify the recirc lines in order to follow them back to the intake manifold, not really sure what they look like. Also is it alright to use carb cleaner to shoot through the valves and clean them out or does it have to be alcohol, and what is and where can I find "gel seal", can I use silicone to seal the threads? Thanks alot, sorry for the dumb questions just want to get it right the first time so I don't have to do it again and I'll know it from now on.

Are the recirc valves the 3 small fittings on the port side of the motor? I took a look around and these were the only things I could see on the intake that looked like it could possibly be them, didn't see any on the starboard side of the motor, but if I'm think right there should only be 3, 1 for each crank bearing, correct?

Can anyone give me a hand and just tell me if I'm looking in the right place? I really want to just take care of this and get on the water.

Hey OBJ, why do you need to replace the oil filter sock on the oil resevoir, does it rip when it gets old or do they just need replacing every so often? The sock on mine looks O.K., it's not ripped or anything, should I still replace it or is it fine if it is not damaged? Thanks, Mike.
