Hi,
I am in the middle of replacing the impeller. The shift rod has been uncoupled and the lower end dropped. The old impeller casing will not slide off due to the brass upper coupling which is crimmped onto the upper shift rod. I started to take the power head off so I could get to the shift rod from top to see if it's bolted to the gear linkage that comes thru cowling. Problem when trying to remove the power head is after removing all bolts there is one 7/16 bolt left on the left hand side that cannot be reached, so back to square one. Is there another way to remove upper shift rod without removing power head. I can't see any pins around the outside gear linkage....Please help... thank you.

I'm sorry but you're not making much sense. If the lower unit is off why do you need to pull the powerhead?

Welcome to Iboats Rambus.

If you got the lower unit off, there should be no shift rod to impede the removal of the impeller housing.

Did you remove the water intake screens and disconnect the shift rod connectors and remove the keepers so the connector could be taken off? I'm a little confused as to what you got your self into. You should in no way have to remove the power head just to change the impeller.

Do you have a manual your going by?

Thanks for the replies. My problem was when undoing the shift rod connector behind water screen I couldn't remove the top brass nut from shift rod. Know I know the nut is held in place by a plastic keeper then all I have to do is push the brass nut up the shift rod, pry off the keeper and the nut comes off and then the impeller.
Thanks to this board and another for helping me out. Cheers.
