Is there any harm in flipping the reeds over? Using the opposite side after being ran a year on the original. No visible cracks or burns. Some say yea others say nea. Your thoughts.

Re: Reed Valves

Why would you need to flip them over? Are any of them bad? All the manuals I have say don't flip them over. If they are bent, replace them. Most are cheap.

Re: Reed Valves

When I did full carb cleaning, I looked into each reed valve assembly to inspect. I noticed that two to three out of the six fingers in each cage were not properly seated (est 0.010" open), thought they might not have been installed properly or damaged. Removed all reeds to inspect for defects and damage. I laid them on a flat surface to see they were bent, They laid flat on both sides. Reeds looked in excelent shape. Flipping them could be a cheap fix for miserly guy (Save $50). Have yall known of them to break after being flipped? Curious.

Re: Reed Valves

It's possible that the reed screws that hold them in place were over torqued causing the distrotion. Try re-installing them and don't over torque the screws.

Curious....were you having any problems with blow back through the carbs? If not, the reeds were probably OK.
