Hello, I have a 1985 85hp Evinrude Model# 85899c Serial# J0003226. I was attempting to start the motor for the first time this summer. The motor started and ran for 2-3 seconds then died. I can get it to run for that amount of time with spraying some starting fluid into the carbs. I have removed as many fuel lins as i can reach and made sure they are clear. At first it seemed like the fuel was just not reaching the carbs. The fuel filter is letting fuel past so i thought it might be a restriction after the filter. all that is behind it is a splitter that sends fuel to each of the carbs. I can spray starter fluid into that splitter and it will start then die even with coaxing with the fluid. I had the carbs overhouled a couple years ago. Could there be something else that would cause this similar problem or does it sound like the carbs are just gumed up?
