head repairs

hi techs, can anyone advise me on getting a head welded and skimmed as opposed to getting new head?<br /><br />thanks in advance<br />chris

Any good machine shop would be able to weld and deck (machine) the surface. Don't take more than 0.005 inch (5 thousandths inch) off. Depending on the engine it may be easier to find a used head that doesn't need any work or maybe a slight resurfacing of the deck.
