What is Selectric Shift? This engine came equiped on a used boat, an early 60's 16' Red Fish. The wiring from the motor is present but no controls. What is it I'm looking for? I've researched the Web and find no pictures of boat, engine, and wiring. I have ordered a manual, which I hope will answer many questions. Any good sites for parts? I need other parts, but want to start here before I move on.

You have a 1962 40hp with electric shift gearcase. It works like this: Electromagnet located in front of hub on propshaft pulls spring attached to gear accross hub. Drag of spring on hub causes spring to wrap tight on hub causing gear and hub/propshaft to rotate as one. shutting off electromagnet allows spring to relax releasing hub.

Here a couple of pages, you might be able to read them

http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/e_1962/seite_10_11.jpg

http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/e_1962/seite_08_09.jpg
