Remove the flywheel as described above, replace or at least check the points and see what you come up with. Gap at .020.. MAny times Autozone will let you borrow a puller. Do not get one that pulls on the outside edges of the flywheel or you will have trouble. Harmonic Balancer Puller!!

I have to ask one more time. Are those the numbers off the boat itself or the motor mount? Normally there is a small plate or sticker on the motor transom bracket(The part of the motor that sits on the boat).

Learned alot right here on this forum and some more on my own over the years. There are guys here that know 10 times more than I will ever know! Your settings are J4C(J6C will work also, just a little hotter burning plug) Champion Spark Plug, gap at .030. I would open it up to .035 for trolling and better low speed running. Just works better! Points will be set at .020 when the points are at their widest point on the cam lobe. Turn the flywheel by hand to accomplish this.<br /><br />BTW- The best way to know your motor is to work on it yourself. A Manual is a must. This thread would not exist if you had one..
