Dear all you experts!
I have just startet the engine for the first time and it now seems to run fine!
But, i can't see any water running out of the tale, and i believe it should. Am I right?
If so, I need to check the impeller and the tstat. I know its in the lower unit, but if I open this, what about the oil in it? Should I emty it for oil first?
Yes I know, bad english, but here we speak norwegian ... sorry
model J5RHCIC Serial B005941

Don't worry Luke, the gear lube will stay put. You needn't drain the lower unit before servicing the water pump.

You really should get a service manual. I've done it before, but I couldn't explain.
Yes the water should be coming out of the tell-tale all the time. It doesn't have a T-stat.
As I recall it wasn't that hard to replace the impeller. It's just been a while.

Yes I know I should have e service manual, but it takes weeks to get it here, and my vacation starts next week, meaning I need the engine to run sooner than soon:)
I understand that this is a bit big job, am I right?

There was no wrong with my engine, the only reason I had no water was the fact that the shaft wasn't deep enough in the water. After trying with a bigger tank to run it in everything now is ok! I have been talking to some people here in Norway and they say outboards rarely have troble with the impeller, in the other hand, inboards needs to have the impeller changed every year.

I don't believe that is true. The impellers will eventually wear out. The fact that you ran it dry may make that sooner than later.
Last time I changed the impeller on my 4 1/4 the kit came with instructions & diagram.
