for the t/stat look at the top of the head there should be a cover with a gasket under it with a round place on it, don't understand what rubber hose you are talking about, as far as i know the water goes from the pump via the water tube directly into the water jackets of the motor. there should be water coming out the exhaust after it goes through the motor, is your motor running hot?

I do believe on the early V4 power heads, the t-stat housing is located just below the exhaust cover on the back of the engine. Sylvain, are you sure you got the water tube lined up with the water pump housing hole?

Remove the T-stat and see if it still overheats. If so, drop the lower unit again and check out the water tube and make sure the impeller key is installed.... If it's does not heat up, get a new stat... Water pump runs anytime the engine is running, no matter what gear you are in, even neutral. Do NOT run the engine for long until you find out what the problem is. It will die a quick death. Just run it long enough to see if it's overheating...

There are 2 short rubber hoses at the rear of the powerhead down by the pan. Pull them off and fire the motor back up. If no water flows then your water pump is not pumping water up to the engine. Drop the lower unit again and make sure the key is installed in the impellor and make sure you get the water tube inserted into the impellor housing when you put the lower unit back on.

sylvain - T/stats do not have wires. Are you using a shop manual? If not suggest you get one.

Take one of the hoses away from the t-stat housing and while the motor is running water should circulate thru it.

(OBJ)
Where'd ya' git that?
you can obtain these and other useful info on older motors by searching the brochures on this site
http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/
