COMPRESSION READINGS FOR 79 EVINRUDE 85 HORSE

If you are out there no book today but need to know what compression readings are suppose to be for this motor if you don't mind helping a girl out

Numbers are not as important as consistency. The numbers on each cylinder should be within 10% of each other. But I personally consider anything over 100lbs to be pretty good.

E/J didnt state specific numbers in the service manual. They do state the compression should be no more than 15 lbs different. Several things will have an effect on your readings.<br /><br />If the motor has not been run lately the cylinders will be drier than if it had just run. Gauges vary. If the cylinders are consistant side to side but the sides, as a whole, are slightly different then there may be two different heads on the motor. The battery must be up and fully charged. The starter should be in good working order.<br /><br />Basically we are looking simply for a comparison and a baseline.
