parts for 1951 25hp

Hi gys I need some parts for my old out board.<br />It runs fine but the part where the uper and <br />lower shift rod join togther it is broken so it will shift into revesre and nutral but it won't engage in forward and stay there.<br />I think I can weld the part but if I could find one it would be better thank you.

You could order a shift rod connector from your local dealer, find one used some where. Dealer may have a used one he will sell you. If you think you can weld or braze this part why not just make the repair? It would have to be less time and trouble. By the time you monkey around finding and purchessing a part you could make the repair.

Thanks for the info but my local dealerknows nothing abouht these old motors.<br />The only thing I'm worryed abought welding it is <br />it's aluimum and I'm not that godd at welding aluimum.<br />I will try thought.

If it's broken anyway you've got nothing to lose by trying to weld it. What type of connector is it, maybe you could make a new one more easily than fixing the old one?

Any shift rod connector for the length motor you have will work. Get a used bronze one from another year motor. As petrolhead suggests you have nothig to loose by trying a repair.

Well I tried repair it failed <br />I think I'm going to try and make a new one<br />from steel becuse I can work with steel a lot beter.

I was able to fix it after all. <br />so thanks for the help.<br />but that was only half the problem as it turns out the propeller bushing was worn out.
